I wish to address a recent report brought to my attention, emanating from an acclaimed β€œenlarged APC Stakeholders Meeting in Ikono Local Government Area,” which has been circulated without basis or evidence on Social Media under the caption β€œL.G.ELECTION: Stop Insulting Tinubu and Akpabio, Ikono Apc Leadership cautions Macaire.”

This poorly written and badly punctuated piece of report claimed that I made derogatory comments about President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio. I categorically state that these allegations are entirely false and without merit and wish to note the following:

  1. Throughout my tenure as the representative of the Ikono and Ini people in the House of Representatives, I have always prioritized the best interests of the people, irrespective of political party lines or affiliations. My track record is well-documented, and there is extensive evidence to validate my dedication to the service of the people, irrespective of political differences and affiliations.
  2. As an elected public official within the current administration, it would be an irrational indictment on myself to engage in making disparaging remarks while still holding office.
  3. It is widely known that the legislature, of which I am a part, enjoys a constructive working relationship with the Executive Arm led by President Bola Tinubu. Furthermore, I maintain a cordial relationship with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, both in official and personal capacities. The Senate President, who is also a former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, has on several occasions publicly commended my efforts in public service, a fact that further discredits these false claims.
  4. It is very unfortunate to see that this group of people would resort to these unwarranted attacks, perhaps as a campaign strategy. I would like to advise them to focus on policy-based campaigns and constructive dialogue rather than attempting to tarnish my reputation through baseless accusations.
  5. My focus remains unwavering on the development of Akwa Ibom State and the Ikono-Ini Federal Constituency. I am committed to channelling my energy and efforts towards initiatives that will bring tangible benefits to our people. I refuse to be distracted by unfounded claims and will continue to serve with the dedication and integrity that my constituents have entrusted in me.

In conclusion, I call on all parties to engage in responsible and constructive discourse as we approach the forthcoming local government elections. Our collective goal should be the continued progress and development of our communities, not the propagation of falsehoods.

Thank you.

Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo
Member, House of Representatives
Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency
