A covert operation by a government security agency has reportedly uncovered a massive cache of cash, allegedly linked to former Governor Udom Emmanuel, inside a private compound in Shelter Afrique Estate, Uyo.
According to sources, the compound, which contains three houses and has both front and back entrance gates, is believed to hold over ₦100 billion in both Naira and U.S. Dollar denominations.
The money is allegedly managed by Frank Archibong, the immediate past Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Efforts to seize the funds and move them into federal government custody reportedly faced resistance over the weekend.
Sources claim that Governor Umo Eno intervened in the matter by summoning the leader of the security team for a late-night meeting at the Governor’s Lodge.
The intervention, said to be at the behest of former Governor Udom Emmanuel, has raised questions about the state government’s interest in the property and its contents.
While no official statement has been released by the Akwa Ibom State Government, the incident has sparked widespread speculation.
Observers are questioning why Governor Umo Eno intervened and whether the funds were legally acquired.
Others are asking if the move to confiscate the money was politically motivated.
With public interest growing, the controversy is expected to deepen in the coming days.
More details will emerge as investigations unfold.
