Tension in Akwa Ibom as Alleged Pressure Mounts on Governor Umo Eno Over LGA Political Leaders’ Implementation List

Fresh political tensions may be brewing in Akwa Ibom State following reports of a behind-the-scenes push to compel Governor Umo Eno to implement an undisclosed local government political leaders list, which is said to be generating internal disagreement among power blocs in the state.

Multiple political insiders familiar with recent developments told our reporters that former Governor Udom Emmanuel allegedly placed a telephone call to Governor Eno at the early hours of Monday, November, 3, 2025, urging him to proceed with the implementation. According to the sources, the former governor was said to have insisted that failure to act could jeopardise Governor Eno’s political future and re-election prospects as Senate President Godswill Akpabio would mess him up.

In addition to the reported midnight communication, senior government actors are also believed to be involved in the ongoing pressure campaign. The Secretary to the State Government, Enobong Uwah, and a prominent political figure, Frank Archibong, allegedly advised the Deputy Governor to persuade Governor Eno to approve and execute the purported agenda.

“They believe nothing significant will happen if the list is implemented,” one insider, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue, told this newspaper.

The specifics of the alleged list remain unclear, but political observers suggest it may be tied to emerging internal realignments within the governing circle as power dynamics evolve ahead of future electoral cycles.

Neither the Akwa Ibom State Government nor representatives of the former governor have issued an official reaction or responded to inquiries as of the time of filing this report.

…. Stay tuned as our reporters will continue to track this developing story.
