… Hails Senate President’s political wisdom in the Southern region
BY VICTOR UFOT
The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo, has commended Governor Umo Eno, PhD, for his inclusive and people-oriented governance style, describing his policies as development-driven and transcending party lines.
Ntukekpo made the remarks while speaking with newsmen shortly after returning from Bayelsa State, where he accompanied Governor Umo Eno to witness the formal defection of Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He noted that Governor Eno’s programmes are focused on the collective good of Akwa Ibom people, regardless of political affiliation.
According to the APC chairman, “Governor Umo Eno, PhD, has shown maturity and a strong sense of purpose in the way he governs. His policies clearly transcend party lines. What he’s doing is about Akwa Ibom, not about any political party.”
He highlighted several of the governor’s initiatives, including the offsetting of pension arrears and payment of gratuities to retired civil servants, the housing schemes for the elderly, and youth empowerment programmes designed to tackle unemployment and promote entrepreneurship across the state.
“Governor Eno’s interventions in critical areas such as pension and gratuity payments show that he understands the struggles of the average citizen. His housing initiative for senior citizens is humane, while his youth empowerment drive is a bold step toward reducing joblessness and poverty,” Ntukekpo stated.
The APC chairman also lauded the governor’s focus on agricultural development, rural infrastructure, and investment promotion, which he said have opened new opportunities for local businesses and investors.
“Good governance has no party colour,” Ntukekpo added. “When a leader is genuinely serving the people, we should acknowledge it. What matters most is the growth and stability of Akwa Ibom State, and Governor Eno deserves credit for his pragmatic and people-oriented leadership.”
He further urged politicians across party divides to emulate such leadership, stressing that development should not be politicized. “As stakeholders in the Akwa Ibom project, we must put the state first. Our duty is to encourage progress, not to oppose it simply because it comes from another party,” he said.
While commenting on the defection of Governor Douye Diri to the APC from the PDP, Ntukekpo commended Governor Umo Eno for having foreseen the political trend before many other southern governors. He also described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms and focused leadership as the major reason behind the massive movement of state governors to the party, noting that the President’s policies have continued to inspire confidence and attract broad-based support across the country.
Obong Ntukekpo further praised the President of the senate, federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Godswill Akpabio, for leading the party aright both in the South-South region and at the national level. He commended Akpabio’s strategic leadership role in strengthening the APC’s base and ensuring the party’s growing dominance across the South-South and South-East regions.
According to him, “The Senate President has provided the kind of leadership our party needs – firm, visionary, and inclusive. His political wisdom and coordination have been instrumental in positioning the APC for greater victories across the southern regions and the nation at large.”
